There is absolutely nothing like this show around and the Linsmore Tavern is very honoured to welcome this incredible band to our stage for the first time Saturday May 23rd, The Power of Huey - A Tribute to the Music of Huey Lewis and the News! Featuring an all-star cast of of musicians, this 6 piece band is going to put on a show for the ages at the Linsmore and you are going to want to be apart of it! You will hear the 80's smash hit album Sports played in it's entirety, as well as a set of other Huey Lewis hit songs!
The original idea of the band started about 10 years ago when Simon Head (Bass/ backing vocals) and Mikey Hawdon (rhythm guitar) were in a skype conversation. Simon noticed that Mikey was wearing a 3/4 sleeve Huey Lewis & the News shirt and gushed over how that was his 1st concert unchaperoned and how much the “Sports” album meant to him. Simon then suggested that they re-record that album at his Insight Recorders studio note for note and cut for cut. A week or two went by when Mikey called Simon saying he had learnt all the drum parts and was ready to record. So what started off as an extemporaneous remark began the project that never ended.
The recording started off with tracks being laid down fast. The project went cold after they couldn’t find a sax player befitting to the role. there was an amazing cameo from Steve Krecklo (KAOS, Andy Stochansky) to play the lead guitar on “I Want a New Drug”.
Mikey and Simon always wanted to have Darren Dumas (Mista D of “The Salads”) as the lead singer because of his vocal tonal match and unprecedented stage presence. Darren recorded some tracks at his home in Stratford Ontario. After hearing the results the band was on it’s way
The project moved from hard drive to hard drive, computer to computer until one day in the spring of 2019, it was rediscovered.
High School friend and guitar extraordinaire Jason White came was asked to join to the live version of the band. Brandon Walker answered a Facebook ad asking for a sax player the also played keys. Rounding out the fold is Andrew McMullen, a professional drummer who also played in several bands for the past 20 years.
